Galaxy class USS ENTERPRISE 1701-D TNG AMT ERTL 1/1400 model kit

This is my build of the AMT/ERTL 1/1400 Enterprise 1701-D model kit (the old one not the clear plastic re release), i built this for a client and was my first attempt at one of these kits so a lot was learnt but has turned out impressive, This super model is able to saucer separation and still have all the lights on by an additional pole to sit it onto, the pole itself is also removable so when the model is in full flight mode you only see the main pole connected to the star drive section, I came up with an idea of using powerful magnets in both the saucer section and the cobra head but retaining the little peg and this works a treat, to run power the saucer section from the cobra head I came up with another idea which was to use a tiny spring loaded connector which I mounted into the underside of the saucer section, then I used small metal pins carefully mounted into position on the top side of the cobra head so that they align with the connectors on the saucer section, and there is a second power connector located under the captains yacht, the yacht itself is detachable by using tiny magnets, at the back of the ship I have used fibre optics to light the RED & GREEN navigation lights as well as on other parts of the ship, the whole model is run of a 12v power adaptor, I also added windows were they should of been in the first place like in front of the captains yacht and around the saucer edge.
I sanded down all the raised panel lines and used masking templates from defiant model creations in the USA to do all the Aztec panels "these masks are highly detailed" and easy to use, the decals I used are from JT Graphics, And the overall colour scheme is: base colour light grey, second colour medium warm grey (I have never liked the duck egg blue colour scheme “awful”) anyone who remembers the saucer crashing scene in generations, the warp nacelle grills are copper and the buzzards are frosted.
The base/stand is custom made with a lighted Starfleet emblem and reflects the underside of the model very nicely and when it is lighted you can see all the windows on the underside in the reflection, another unique piece I have done is added a photon torpedo sound effect within the base “fire torpedo's”, when the second pole is not being used for the saucer section it leaves a round mounting hole so I made up a black plug to go over it.

My camera does tricks sometimes as the blue is showing as a purple colour in the photos.
Please take a look at my other posts as I have other models like the Bubble ship from Oblivion and the 1/350 polar lights Enterprise just to name a few.

  1. WoW! Your model is amazing. I was worried that it might be too small for any intricate detail, but after seeing yours I will definitely buy this one and build it. I'm currently working on the USS Reliant and will be my first build in over 30 years, as I haven't touched models since my earlier 20's. :)

  2. WOW, really amazing! Just a question: Does anybody know, if Polar Lights have a Enterprise D model in a larger scale than the "small" 54 cm 1701-D?
